Thirty people to start seven-year |
|
Italy's Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa will offer a long-life puja to Geshe Jampa Gyatso, the main teacher for
the FPMT Master's Program in Buddhist Studies, at the commencement of the program January 16 next
year. Thirty students from around the world are registered to start their studies, using as their basis for the
first two years the text An Ornament for Clear Realizations (Abhisamayalamkara) a teaching given by
Lord Maitreya to Asanga in the second century. Geshe Lhakpa joins the institute staff from Sera Je Monastery in south India. He will teach subjects from the other FPMT study program, the Basic Program, and will also teach texts such as Minds and Knowers (Lorig), Signs and Reasons (Tarig), Buddhist Tenets (Drupta), Grounds and Paths (Salam) and the Small, Middle and Great Collected Topics (Dura), thus allowing students of the Master's Program to enhance their studies. Course materials for students will include daily transcriptions of Geshe Jampa Gyatso's teachings, as well as a Tibetan-English dictionary by Chandra Das, the Tibetan and English root text of Abhisamayalamkara, and Haribhadra's Clear Meaning Commentary in Tibetan and English. The Institute Is happy to announce they will offer a work-study program to Masters Program students who are unable to pay for food and housing costs. This program also applies to students who do qualify for the scholarship fund set up by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and FPMT Education Office, but who do not have enough savings to pay for the first six months of the program, when the scholarship does not apply. In exchange for room and board, students will devote a certain number of hours per week to one of the various projects or work sectors at the Institute. After many years, the Institute is also happy to announce it will re-establish the service of offering a correspondence course in Buddhist studies for students around the world, which will feature the entire Masters Program. The teachings of Geshe Jampa Gyatso will be transcribed weekly and made available with other course material. For information or to apply, contact:
