Liberation for our Brother and Sister Animals

Trisha Roberts and Dede River, two FPMT students in Australia, have formed a group called ‘Liberation for our Brother and Sister Animals’ (LobsA) – the name bestowed on them by Lama Zopa Rinpoche himself.

Its goal is to assist in the abolition of animal use in medical research, product testing, circuses, rodeos, and other forms of entertainment. Its focus is on international animal rights activism and also aims to help spread Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s compassionate advice on how to benefit our brother and sister animals.

“We are uncompromisingly opposed to the so-called sport of hunting and the wearing of animal skin, mainly fur, but also including leather, wool, down, etc. Plus, LobsA supports the eventual phasing-out of animals for food consumption. Moreover, LobsA is an unwavering supporter of human rights, and we are seeking an end to discrimination of all kinds. With your help, through non-violent action, we can end the unnecessary bloodshed, malicious treatment, and injustices that all sentient beings endure,” says its website www.lobsa.org which reminds us that our brother and sister animals are “sentient beings, not food choices.”

Veganism is part of LobsA’s manifesto. A vegan is someone who chooses to avoid using or consuming animal products. While vegetarians choose not to use flesh foods, vegans also avoid dairy and eggs, as well as fur, leather, wool, down, and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals. Food for thought: Few people would keep a hen in a shoe box for her egg-laying life; but practically everyone will eat smartly packaged “farm fresh” eggs from battery hens.

LobsA’s website is a credit to the hard-working pair. It contains much valuable information about animal rights issues, lots of links to other organizations, videos, teachings, recipes, news items, photos, and much more.
