Thank you for the entries in our Photography Contest for readers under the age of thirty!
The February/March 2007 winner is Dawa Tendu, age 27, who lives in Kham, Tibet, and is the nephew of Geshe Tsulga, resident geshe at Kurukulla Center in Massachusetts.
Jeff Eyges, who submitted this photo of Tsun-ma Jampa Dolkar on Dawa’s behalf, reports: “This past summer I joined Geshe Tsulga when he returned home to Kham, Tibet. Dawa, the photographer, had never used a camera before, and soon became the resident photographer as well as my ‘attendant’.
“We spent August where Geshe-la was born, in nomad land, at 17,000 feet. We lived in houses made primarily from dirt, without electricity or plumbing. His younger relatives would travel by horse, motorcycle, or foot, up from the valley and nearby villages to help take care of us – collecting yak dung for fuel, washing our clothes over rocks in the river, and milking and herding the animals. Because of their kindness and that of Dawa, we were kept warm, well-fed, and incredibly healthy.”
Keep those photos rolling in! The contest will continue until the launch of the new youth organization, Loving Kindness Peaceful Youth, later in the year. Digital Cameras – (5 megapixels or larger) Set at the highest capture resolution – 8 bit. Send either RAW or jpg format via email to the editor or send on a CD. No sharpening please.
