Loving Kindness Photo Contest: Third Winner
Where kindness begins
The winning entry in our Photo Contest for young photographers under the age of 30 came from Sarah Love, 28, who has worked with three- to five-year-olds as a teacher’s assistant at FPMT’s Tara Redwood School in Santa Cruz, California for the past four years.
Sara and her colleagues Bev Gwyn and Amanda Dofflemyer tell us that the school’s emphasis is on helping children develop the social-emotional and spiritual aspects of themselves in conjunction with child-centered learning. “It was difficult for me to select just one picture: They all capture the vibrancy of a truly unique learning environment where children can practice and cultivate loving kindness with each other and their surroundings. …” [We decided to show readers more than one photo as we, too, found it hard to choose! See Mandala June-July 2007 for the rest of the photos. Ed.]
The Contest will continue till after the launch of the new youth organization, Loving Kindness Peaceful Youth. The grand winner will be announced in the February-March 2008 issue. You could win a Shakyamuni Buddha portable altar kit, a DVD of ‘Discovering Buddhism’ and a one-year subscription to Mandala.
